One of the joys of the Savage is that with a production run now stretching out to 17 years - there have been amazingly few changes.

The transmission starts as a four speed - (what a hoot that is in the age of 6 speed rowing boxes) and after a hiatus in importing the bike to the USA ( it continued to be popular in lots of other corners of the world) Suzuki reworked the transmission to squeeze a five speed in.

There might have been a bit of tinkering with carb models and jetting - but nothing of any serious consequences.

In the tradition of the great British and American singles of the 30's 40's and 50"s - Suzuki has maintain close adherence to the philisoply - If it ain't broken - don't fix it!

And as you will learn - the Savage is a design that definitely is not broken
